A satisfying interview of Larry Page by Charlie Rose on TED. Some of his thoughts that resonated with mine,
- Obsession on automated transportation
- Focus of working on changes that would not come on its own
- Utilization of corporations as a catalyst for social impact

A failed prophet. It’s funny because I thought his talk at TED was exceptional. http://www.fastcompany.com/3028159/a-broken-place-better-place

We pay too much attention to hot shot founders while greatness stems from those like Abrash. For a decent intro to virtual reality, watch video inside the post. http://www.oculusvr.com/blog/introducing-michael-abrash-oculus-chief-scientist/

Elon Musk is a business man with the mind of a physicist. One of those rare individuals that can imagine a future from the ground up. Historically, religion has educated the public about how to live. However, in a time where religious people are often a minority and schools primarily focus in practical skills, we are faced with a growing population of troubled souls. Alain De Botton speaks with quite urgency of this problem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMH5NOdM5sg

A documentary watched by the recommendation of Hunter Horsely. George Westinghouse was an amazing inventor and industrialist. I cannot believe he has been forgotten in American history. http://www.amazon.com/Westinghouse-Carol-Lee-Espy/dp/B004SB1D62/

Charlie Rose is by far my favorite interviewer. I just love the simplicity and focus of his program. Round table, black background, two people, and a conversation about things that matter. Max Levchin, co-founder of Paypal back in the day, speaks about his more recent endeavors. You can really tell that he keeps coming back to the game because he loves the work. http://www.charlierose.com/watch/60248643

A presentation of the human-like athletic abilities of quadcopters by Raffaello D'Andrea. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2itwFJCgFQD'Andrea is an amazing character. In the past, he co-founded Kiva Systems(a ted talk by another founder http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szU2-1infqc) which was later acquired by Amazon for $775M. He currently leads a research lab in ETH Zurich churning out amazing projects. http://raffaello.name/dynamic-works/

I recently bought a $90 stylus from Adonit (http://adonit.net/jot/touch/). Adonit is a Kickstarted (i.e. originated from a crowd funding project) 3 year old company that pivoted from making wireless iPad keyboards to high-end styluses. What is absolutely interesting is that I bought their product over those of traditional industry leaders such as Watcom (and FYI, I own a Watcom Bamboo stylus and did a good 3 hour research before I made my purchase, so it was a pretty informed decision)Historically, it has been a rarity to see underdogs build superior products than those of giants, but my feeling is that it is happening more often b/c the traditional barriers to prototyping and financing is crumbling down due to 3D printing, crowd funding, and such. Another point worth noting is that my current iPad drawing app of choice is Procreate(http://procreate.si/), and if you listen to the story behind this product(http://vimeo.com/28263151) it was created by underdogs as well.

Unfortunately, this will only resonate with the true geeks out there that appreciate the modularity of UNIX tools and the flexibility of text as a universal interface. What is amazing is that UNIX is a fairly simple OS in its core but has flourish b/c it employed the right set of philosophies that enabled programmers to easily reuse the work of one another.Just as a mental note, the core UNIX philosophies are:
- Write programs that do one thing and do it well.
- Write programs that work together
- Write programs that handle text streams, because that is the universal interface.
The video is a short film from AT&T Archives (b/c UNIX was developed in Bell Labs). The primary developers of UNIX, including Ritchie, Thompson, and Kernighan appear in attempt to enlighten the audience the powers of UNIX. Good stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tc4ROCJYbm0 - Write programs that do one thing and do it well.

The founder & CEO of Wealthfront Andy Rachleff has put together a great career guide based on his extensive experience as a VC and professor at Stanford GSB. He argues that the best career decision right after graduating from school is to join a mid-sized company with great momentum. His advice resonated with me. You can get the eBook from Wealthfront's website. https://info.wealthfront.com/SiliconValleyCareerGuide.html

Animated interviews of Noam Chomksy by Michel Gondry. Noam Chomsky is a linguistics professor at MIT. The conversation itself is a bit too philosophical for my taste, but the visuals are amazing. A making film by The Creators Project inspired me the watch it. The entire piece can be found in iTunes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7dbZBgmV3E&feature=c4-overview-vl&list=PL6uqON-thyrZcRFF8qVugHPFTytlJe1wV

I know there has been a lot of criticism going on about Jack Dorsey, but I honestly think he is a solid guy. You have to admit that regardless of what happened at Twitter, he is proving himself through his execution of Square. He is all about simplification. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fs0R-UvZ-hQ
